Minecraft hex colors and MiniMessage gradients explained

Choose the right color syntax for your plugin, build a readable gradient and understand why MiniMessage and legacy hex codes are different.

Choose a destination before choosing a format

Minecraft color tools produce text for a receiving parser. A hex color is just a color value, such as #F8DF95; the surrounding syntax tells a plugin how to use it. Installing Paper alone does not make ordinary player chat interpret every hex or MiniMessage string.

Open the NobleMC RGB generator, enter a short name or message, and select the plugin or destination. The selector changes the default output format and displays compatibility guidance. If you know the exact syntax your field expects, choose it manually instead.

Hex codes and MiniMessage are different languages

A hex-aware plugin may accept an ampersand before a six-digit color, for example &#F8DF95Noble. Some parsers use expanded legacy hex codes, such as &x&F&8&D&F&9&5Noble, or the equivalent section-sign codes. These strings are not universally interchangeable; check the documentation for the field you are editing.

MiniMessage uses tags. For a MiniMessage-enabled field, try <gradient:#F8DF95:#D8932F>NobleMC</gradient>. Decorations can surround that gradient, such as <gradient:#F8DF95:#D8932F>NobleMC</gradient>. See the official MiniMessage format reference for its full tag language.

The generator also offers JSON text components for compatible Java command and component consumers. Its command button appears only for supported JSON output without an extra prefix or suffix. Running a command still requires the appropriate server permission.

Build a gradient you can read

Start with two or three colors that remain readable against the intended background. Use the separate preview to try chat, TAB, an item name, lore, a menu or a scoreboard. These are simulations: your Minecraft font, resource pack, client and plugin field can change the final appearance.

Bold and italic controls stay visible beside the editor. More specialist choices live under Advanced. RGB blends color channels; HSL follows hue; OKLab offers a perceptual blend. Try them on the same text and compare the middle of the gradient, not only its endpoints.

Spacing and characters-per-color settings also affect the result. The generator uses explicit per-character colors when a compact MiniMessage gradient cannot reproduce your settings. Longer output can be correct; shortening it by hand may change the gradient.

Paste, test and keep a reusable copy

Copy the generated output into the documented field and test with a short sample first. If you see literal tags, recheck the parser and plugin version. For YAML configuration, preserve indentation and quote text when the plugin’s examples require it. BBCode color tags are intended for BBCode consumers; Discord does not display them as colored chat text.

Save a named local preset or export its JSON file before a larger editing session. Browser presets stay on that device. A share link stores the editor state in its fragment; anyone you give that link to can read the text it contains. Keep private information out of shared examples.

For moving colors, continue with creating TAB gradient animations. A single MiniMessage gradient is static until something updates its frames. If you came for the tool and want somewhere to play, explore NobleMC Skyblock or join our Discord for teammates, season updates and support.

Key Notes

Match the syntax to the receiving plugin and field.
Use per-character output for advanced gradient settings.
A static gradient string does not animate by itself.
